One page for the student and one for the teacher, with the answer and what a strong response looks like. Print either or both.
Derek sorts books at the book fair table near the checkout basket. The librarian wants the price card finished for the joke-book stack. A class waits in line, and the checkout helper cannot start yet. Derek finds the card under a pile of shiny bookmarks. The marker is with the stamp pad, and the tape roll is empty. Some choices help the table open, but some only make clutter.
Sort Derek's choices into the two columns.
| Works | Doesn't Work |
|---|---|
- 1. Ask the librarian for the joke-book price.
- 2. Use the marker from beside the stamp pad.
- 3. Place the finished card by the joke-book stack.
- 4. Sort every bookmark by color first.
- 5. Start a new poster for the whole fair.
- 6. Move the shiny bookmarks into a taller pile.
Think about it: Which choice would let the checkout helper start soonest, and why?
