One page for the student and one for the teacher, with the answer and what a strong response looks like. Print either or both.

A laptop, calculator, envelopes, and folded table cards sit on a club table for a budget task.

Esme drags the snack fundraiser row lower in the club budget spreadsheet after the venue fee lands in the wrong column. The club adviser had asked for updated totals before approving the order form for tables, posters, and receipt envelopes. Esme told the group that fixing the formulas would take five minutes, so another member left to print sign-up sheets. The subtotal for supplies still changes when she edits ticket income, and several copied cells show the same decimal twice. The group is waiting for one clear update, not a finished budget, because the adviser can review changes later.

Choose the ending most likely to work, then state what happens next.

  1. Esme keeps working without sending an update, because a finished spreadsheet will be more useful than a partial explanation.
  2. Esme tells the group the estimate was wrong, names the two totals that are not reliable yet, and asks them to pause printing budget pages.
  3. Esme types the closest estimated totals into the copied cells, sends the sheet, and plans to correct any small errors later.

Think about it: What makes a status update useful when a task is taking longer than estimated?
