What an amazing overview of how our US government works, with simple explanations for students. Topics are broken down into very manageable sections, with examples and encouragements to become engaged participants. There are also review questions and fun puzzles to reinforce the learning. My sense is that this book makes up for the lack of this teaching in our schools. Every student should understand how cleverly our democracy is structured, and how the Founding Fathers were insightful enough to provide solutions to the challenges a vastly populated country would have regarding its management and function. With the thorough review this book provides on government operation and how it impacts each of us, students can lead lives that are more informed and open to make a difference as they grow up and become adults. Well done!

This workbook is great for homeschooling; it offers a structured path to understanding how our government works and why it matters to know that information. There are 25 lessons that discuss the Bill of Rights, branches of the government, voting, civil rights, and global citizenship. It breaks the information into 5 units: Foundations of American Democracy, Structure and Function of Government, The Judicial System and Law, The Political Process and Citizenship and Global Affairs. Then each part has questions to help making sure the information is understood, some with fun activities like crosswords or word searches, all followed with an answer key in the back.
Very easy to read and use for lessons
This is a wonderful book on Government and Civics. This is very well put together with good exercises after each section that helps to cement the information. These are very important subjects for everyone to learn and know. There is an answer key in the back for the lessons. Very easy to read and use for lessons.
Excellent Resource
This is the most thorough resource I’ve seen on Government and Citizenship. It covers the basics such as branches of government and elections as well as the role of media. The discussion questions are thought provoking, encouraging the student to apply learning rather than merely evoking rote answers. This is an excellent resource for home schoolers as well as for use in classrooms.
Good plans. Needs to better Understand the type of government the US is
This provides a great breakdown of civics and how governments work. I would have to make amendments to some of what they teach about the US government being a Democracy. Because we are not a full democracy we are a Constitutional Republic. Otherwise good lesson plans
Civics matters - especially today!
I think this is a great resource for teachers or parents trying to support high schoolers in Civics education. I was Political Science major so I thought I could help my high schooler through her Civics class but it was tough. These resources would really be a help. There are ideas that would appeal to current kids (like example of school searching or forbidding phones) and quotes like “Every generation gets to decide what Liberty and Equality means.” Enjoyed the subtopics like Common Misperceptions and Did You Know? Not sure that word searches would be helpful but the crossword puzzles would be.
